The field editor is a wizard like modal editor that aims to simplify the process of creating and updating a table field.

The field editor can be open either when a new field element is created by using the diagram palette - only if this option is set in preferences - or to edit an existing table field simply by doing a double-click on a field row of a table element in the diagram. The wizard can be closed at any time by pressing the Finish button once the minimum information has been provided, when a new table field is created from the diagram palette there is an additional button - Add new.. that can be used to add the new table field and immediately restart the wizard to create a new one.

First wizard page shows basic properties of a table field element, the only required information is the field name which can't be left empty and it also must be unique within a database table. Decimals and case sensitive properties are only enabled if appropriate given the selected data type of the field.

When the field data type is changed and the field is used in field mapping of a foreign-key table relation depending on the preference settings the mapped fields in the child tables are updated to match the new data type, left unchanged or a confirmation dialog opens. The update might potentially cascade down if the fields from child tables are also used in foreign-key table relations.

Second wizard page can be used to optionally set display related field properties.

Third and last wizard page can be used to optionally define extra field properties, some properties are only enabled if appropriate given the data type of the field.
